Web6 Jul 2007 · It is a result of an unlucky combo of certain silks & certain matts. It doesn't depend on whether the paints are acrylic or vinyl but on the indivdual formulation. Matt paints tend to be relatively inflexible. Silks are more flexible. So, put something inflexible over something that moves can cause cracking.
WebIf your existing paint is flaking you need to scrape and sand that first. But don't try putting matt on silk - you'll end up with that peeling off too. Once finished as advized above, rub down the silk getting rid of sheen. Matt emulsion has a tendency to "craze" when painted onto silk. The best way to stop that is prepare the surface as normal, e.g. fill, rub down, clean, etc., and then paint it with a coat of Zinsser Gardz.
