WebDec 25, 2003 · The angle of the hole is not critical. 15-20 degrees is fine you just want it drilled away from the head bolt hole so it will break into the water jacket cleanly. It is fairly easy to do. Center punch with a 400 gasket, start the hole aprox. .060" straight & then "tilt" the drill away from the head bolt hole.

I have never had a problem drilling the holes in the iron heads. I always used a 400 gasket with the steam holes and marked them with a white marker. Then I use a center punch to make a dimple and use a small drill the get the first holes in. I then switch to a bigger drill and enlarge the holes.
