WebAug 3, 2024 · This is a review of the Gitane Cigano GJ 15 model gypsy jazz guitar. WebMay 12, 2010 · May 2010. Ciganos are nice, but I'd go for a Cigano GJ10 over the GJ0. There is only a $33 difference through Djangobooks ($297 vs. $330), but the GJ10 has a solid top, where the GJ0 is plywood. The 10 projects more than the 0, and as it seasons will sound better. Plywood tops do not tend to season and mature with age.

WebJun 7, 2024 · As I recall, both the Gitane D-500 and Cigano GJ-15 have only 12 frets to the body, which could limit your lead play. I haven't played the Cigano GJ-15, but I own a GJ-10 (14 frets to the body) and it is a nice guitar with a thin neck. The GJ-10 has a nice sound for lead, but is a bit muddy on rhythm, compared to to my Dupont (of course).

I compared it back to back with the Gitane models and to my ears (been playing guitar for more than 20 years now) the Cigano is far better (and cheaper).
