Classic nucleation theory
WebJan 1, 2015 · The principles of the classical nucleation theory (CNT), originating from J.W. Gibbs, are presented in this chapter. Then, thermodynamics, critical nucleus size, energy barriers, and stationary and nonstationary nucleation kinetics are considered as the basis for further theoretical developments; attention is devoted to nucleation induction time. Webnucleation rate J(S) to be increasing, decreasing, or at a plateau for any range of supersaturation, which is flexible enough to describe the deviations from classical nucleation theory that have been reported in the literature (e.g., see Vekilov, 2004; 2010; and citations therein). The numerical algorithm determines the set of constrained

CNT, developed in the first half of the twentieth century, is based on a number of heuristically plausible assumptions and the majority of theoretical work on nucleation is devoted to refining or extending these ideas.
