The high priest was the leader and the only one who could enter the Most Holy place on the day of atonement. Jesus is now our high priest because He mediates between God and men ( 1 Timothy 2:5 ). But He is a greater high priest for several reasons. Christians generally recognize the same Old Testament theophanies as the Jews.
