Uniwersytet Wrocławski, Zakład Cytobio- WebSpherocytosis is a genetic disease that affects the membrane of a red blood cell. This disease decreases the ratio of surface area to volume of the erythrocyte translating into a less flexible cell. The greater packed the cell the more susceptible it is to rupture or breakdown of the membrane.

Filled circles … WebApr 15, 2007 · Mass spectrometry specifically detects IAEDANS labeling of Cys 475, indicating disruption of linker helicity near the mutant proline residue. Finally, single-molecule unfolding by atomic force microscopy indicates that the mutant construct has lost mechanical resiliency, consistent with destabilization of spectrin repeats.
WebAbstract. The elongated three-helix-bundle spectrin domains R16 and R17 fold and unfold unusually slowly over a rough energy landscape, in contrast to the homologue R15, which folds fast over a much smoother, more typical landscape. R15 folds via a nucleation–condensation mechanism that guides the docking of the A and C-helices. WebSpectrin (Sp), a key component of the erythrocyte membrane, is routinely stretched to near its fully folded contour length during cell deformations. Such dynamic loading may induce …
WebMar 9, 2001 · Free energies of both urea and thermal denaturation have been measured for three pairs of one- and two-repeat fragments, cloned in tandem from the cytoskeletal protein, α-spectrin, from chicken brain to ascertain whether one- and two-repeat fragments are equally stable. One- and two-repeat fragments of each pair were designed with the … WebFeb 1, 2024 · Studies of stability, folding, and physiological roles of repetitive proteins are important for exploiting these properties in nanotechnology and synthetic biology. …
WebJan 31, 2014 · In the conventional protein folding/unfolding simulations, the collapse temperature T θ of the system needs to be determined prior to productive simulations being performed and data collected. In practice, this is done by detecting the maxima of the specific heat as a function of system temperature, which usually requires multiple long ...
